Below you can find information about the rules for completing a foreign language course and a diagnostic test.
Students are kindly requested to familiarise themselves with it.

Diagnostic tests will be available on the University platform for distant learning between 30 October 2023 and 22 December 2023.
Paper declarations must be submitted to the Student Office A210 immediately after the test by 30 November 2023 at the latest.

ALL STUDENTS ARE OBLIGED TO TAKE A PLACEMENT TEST (DIAGNOSTIC TEST) EVALUATING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Placement tests are available on Moodle platform. Find on courses list "Testy językowe" and next select only one language.
Student can select from the following tests:
- Test z języka angielskiego 2023/24 (en. English language test 2023/24)
- Test z języka francuskiego 2023/24 (en. French language test 2023/24)
- Test z języka hiszpańskiego 2023/24 (en. Spanish language test 2023/24)
- Test z języka niemieckiego 2023/24 (en. German language test 2023/24)
- Test z języka rosyjskiego 2023/24 (en. Russian language test 2022/24)
All language courses start from A2/B1 level, so student has to select foreign language learned during secondary school education at least.
Students who have no Polish citizenship and study at the University of Lodz are not entitled to choose to learn as part of the compulsory language course in modern language their native language or the official language in the country of their residence.

THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLETING THE PLACEMENT TEST AND SUBMITTING ALL DECLARATIONS AND APPLICATION LETTERS TO THE STUDENT OFFICE IS: 30.11.2023
AFTER THE PLACEMENT TEST, STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE ONE OF THREE DECLARATION FORMS:
Option for students who:
-do not have an international certificate of at least B2 level
and
-receive a score of less than B2 in the placement test
Declaration should be filled in by the students who want to declare no intent to be exempted from participation in the obligatory language course and immediately delivered to the Student Office A210.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IN THE STUDENT OFFICE A210: 30.11.2023
Option for students who:
-do not have an international certificate of at least B2 level
and
-receive a score of at least B2 in the placement test
The declaration Annex no.2 should be filled in by the students who are entitled to be exempted from participation in the language course following the placement test score and declare intent to submit a declaration to be exempted from the language course and to take the final exam in the winter examiantion session 2023/2024. After passing the curriculum exam, student continue learning the language chosen in the diagnostic test at a higher level or choose to learn another language offered by the Foreign Languages Centre (SJO) at any level.
The declaration Annex no.2 together with Annex no.5 must be immediately delivered to the Student Office A210.

Moreover, the filled-in declaration (Annex no.2) with Dean's consent must finally be delivered to Foreign Language Centre office on 15.01.2024 at the latest.
Based on this, student will be given the final examination date and will be allocated to another language group. The final examination date will be in the winter 2023/2024 examination period.

Option for students who:
-have an international certificate of at least B2 level
Note: The language certificate does not need to be translated into Polish.
Holders of the international certificate at least B2 level (see the list of certificates) are entitled to either:
- apply for recognition of their language qualifications proven by the relevant certificate as equivalent to passing the curriculum examination and for being exempted from the participation in the language course
or
- apply for recognition of their language qualifications proven by the relevant certificate as equivalent to passing the curriculum examination and for learning another language.
In both cases Annex no.4 - Application for the exemption from the final examination in a modern foreign language addressed to the Dean should be delivered to Student Office.

However, before the submission in A210, Foreign Language Centre should express its opinion about the certificate.
When the Dean accept student request letter for recognition of his/her certificate, student can declare intent to study another foreign language at any level.
Only in that case student should delivered to Student Office Annex no.3 - Declaration on selecting another foreign language after obtaining credit for the language course on the basis of a certificate
If student does not want to study another foreign language, we kindly ask to submit the declaration, with a note "I do not want to study another foreign language."
Moreover, the filled-in declaration (Annex no.3) with Dean consent must be delivered to Foreign Language Centre office on 15.01.2024 at the latest.
Based on this, student will be allocated to another language course group.
Note:
If a foreign language is selected, the student is obliged to pass this course, i.e. to attend classes for 2 semesters and to complete everything necessary to pass the course.
If a student does not pass selected foreign language course, the student has to repeat it, and of course, student has to pay for the repetition.
